Women-only self-defence classes
Gracie LadySafe is our self-defence programme for women, based on the techniques of Gracie Jiu-Jitsu. In this 10-lesson programme we teach you how to neutralise the 20 most common attacks, from having your hair grabbed to being pinned to the ground by an assailant. Each one-hour lesson addresses standing and ground techniques.
You can start the programme at any time and take part in any class without previous experience. Unlike most self-defence systems that rely heavily on strength, speed and coordination, LadySafe techniques employ leverage, technique and timing, so anyone, regardless of age or athletic ability, can make them work against larger opponents. Complete the programme and you may test for promotion to pink belt.
Jiu-Jitsu is the perfect self-defence system for women, but only if it is taught correctly. Then what?
Many women who start in LadySafe go on to the full art. Once you are comfortable with the movements and the training environment, you can move into the Gracie Fundamentals classes whenever you are ready. There is no barrier between the sexes in the main classes, exactly as at the Gracie Academy headquarters, but nobody is rushed there.
